Community Traditions and Future Planning: The 2026-27 Budget Newsletter
GOWANDA, NY — The newest edition of The Panther Press is now available for community review, offering a comprehensive look at the proposed 2026-27 school district budget and a celebration of a major milestone in our school’s history.
This special budget issue arrives as Gowanda Middle School celebrates the 50th anniversary of its musical theater program. This year’s record-breaking production of Seussical Jr. did more than entertain; it honored a local legacy that started right here on our stage. Former GMS teacher Cindy Ripley helped create the “Gowanda Model” for Broadway Junior, a movement that has since brought theater to millions of students worldwide. We are incredibly proud of our students for carrying this torch with such energy and dedication.
Alongside these student highlights, the newsletter provides essential details regarding the proposed $40,655,630 budget for the upcoming school year. The District remains committed to balancing high-quality educational opportunities for our students with the common-sense fiscal responsibility our neighbors expect. Residents can find a full breakdown of the budget, including voter eligibility requirements and information on Board of Education candidates, within the digital copy.
The annual Budget Vote and Election will take place on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, in the Middle School Library. Polls will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. For those unable to vote in person, please note the deadlines for absentee ballots included in the publication.
