Gowanda Elementary Celebrates Year-Long Student Achievement with School-Wide Theater Excursion

Gowanda Elementary School students spent a memorable morning immersed in the local community during a school-wide field trip to the historic Hollywood Theater for a special screening of Zootopia 2. The event brought together students from Pre-K through fourth grade, serving as a reward for their dedication to learning and positive behavior throughout the academic year.

The morning began in staggered intervals as classes walked from the elementary campus to the theater. Third and fourth-grade students departed early to participate in an educational, behind-the-scenes tour of the restored local landmark, learning about its architecture and history. Pre-K, Kindergarten, first, and second-grade classes followed shortly after, filling the theater auditorium for the midday show.

The logistics required extensive coordination across multiple building departments. To maintain safety and structure along the route, second-grade students led the primary walking groups, while the school’s intervention team managed lunch deliveries directly to classrooms upon their return. The afternoon concluded back on campus, where students had the opportunity to explore the school Book Fair.

The high level of student responsibility displayed throughout the trip has laid the groundwork to make this neighborhood excursion an annual school tradition. A full digital media gallery documenting the walk and the theater visit has been published on the district website for families to view and download.
