High School Students Invited to Apply for Summer Health Careers Camp

 GOWANDA, NY

Gowanda Central School District students looking to pursue professional careers in medicine, nursing, or allied health fields have the opportunity to experience a working medical facility firsthand. Applications are now open for the regional Health Careers Camp, scheduled for August 21, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at St. James Hospital in Hornell, New York.

The program is designed for high school students entering grades 10 through 12 who will be at least 16 years of age by the start of the camp. Participants will step out of a traditional classroom environment and directly into active hospital departments to observe clinical operations, explore diverse healthcare paths, and interact face-to-face with medical practitioners.

During the single-day immersive program, students will learn about everyday hospital operations and practice foundational skills utilized daily by care teams. By introducing high schoolers to real clinical settings, the initiative aims to build a clear understanding of the academic and practical steps required to enter the healthcare workforce.

Through partnerships with regional health education centers including WNY R-AHEC and CNYAHEC, this specialized camp is provided at no cost to participating families. However, space remains strictly capped to ensure safe clinical supervision, and all materials must be submitted online before the regional selection committee reviews applications.

The absolute deadline to apply for this program is July 17, 2026. Parents, guardians, and interested student-athletes can obtain official registration links and safety guidelines directly through the high school guidance department portal or apply online immediately.
