Student-Athletes Make Strides in ESWG Torch Relay

The Empire State Winter Games returned to the beautiful village of Gowanda on Monday, January 29, 2024, and several of our student-athletes from the elementary, middle, and high schools took turns running with the torch across our campus and downtown.
Gowanda Central School District has been collaborating with ESWG for the past several years to make this unique state level opportunity available to our students and our community.
Students and staff lined the hallways on campus to cheer on the students starting at about 8:30 a.m. The torch traveled from the high school to the middle school then on to the elementary school on Aldrich Street, before the older student runners were safely escorted downtown by local law-enforcement to Community Bank ( a corporate sponsor of ESWG) for the final leg of the relay at about 9:15 a.m. Thank you to everyone in our Panther family and our community who continue to work together to make this experience possible.
