Will You Be Our Bus Driver?

Bus drivers are a vital part of our culture at Gowanda Central School District. Not only are they responsible for safely transporting our most precious cargo – our students – but they are also instrumental in developing meaningful relationships with our students. We are always looking for committed, qualified applicants to join our Transportation Department and enhance our students’ social-emotional learning.

At Gowanda, you’ll navigate not only roads, but also relationships. Our bus drivers are the first and last staff to interact with our students as they begin and end their school days. They are at the wheel literally and figuratively: They nimbly travel throughout our district, familiarizing themselves with our community while making connections with students.

“We welcome applicants who want to make a difference in others’ lives, be a positive influence and be a steady and reliable presence,” says Dr. Robert B. Anderson, superintendent of schools. “Our bus drivers’ ‘good mornings’ and ‘goodbyes’ help guide the tone of communication while building rapport – and that is fundamental in emphasizing soft skills for students of all ages.”

JOB DETAILS: Most drivers work an average of 4.5 hours per day over a split shift typically between 6 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. and between 1:50 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. with the opportunity for evening and weekend Athletics Department assignments. These positions are ideal for retirees, people who work from home, and those with flexible schedules.

WORK PERKS: Help steer our students toward success. Make a difference by building meaningful, supportive relationships. Summers and federal holidays off with the option to apply for summer work when available. Benefits as provided for in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
